 Aquí tenéis un chiste para aprender inglés; no lo vamos a traducir al español porque queremos que nos expliquéis por qué es divertido y lo pongáis en un comentario. Las palabras subrayadas son las más complicadas, y ponemos su significado a continuación:

One day, a teacher was attempting to teach the names of animals to a class of 5-year-olds. She held up a picture of a deer, and asked one boy, "Billy, what is this animal?". Little Billy looked at the picture with a disheartened look on his face and responded, "I'm sorry Mrs. Smith, I don't know.". The teacher was not one to give up easily, so she then asked Billy, "Well, Billy, what does your Mommy call your Daddy?" Little Billy's face suddenly brightened up, but then a confused look came over his face, as he asked, "Mrs. Smith, is that really a pig?"!

Attempting: trying

Disheartened: sad 

Give up: stop trying, quit

Suddenly: quickly

Brightened up: looked happy

Confused: unable to understand

Bueno, sabemos que este reto es un poco difícil, así que os vamos a dar unas pistas además del escudo:

1. Está situada en el norte de Inglaterra.

2. Una buena parte de su población es de origen paquistaní.

3. Prosperó durante la revolución industrial gracias a la industria textil.

4. Está hermanada con la ciudad de Skopje, en la República de Macedonia.

1. The city is located in the north of England.

2. A great part of its population belongs to the pakistani ethnic group.

3. It became prosperous during the Industrial Revolution thanks to the textile industry.

4. One of its twin city is Skopje in the Republic of Macedonia.

En nuestro pequeño blog damos especial importancia a los idiomas, su transmisión y la cultura que los alimenta. Por esta razón, nos encantaría que nos enviarais fotografías o comentarios escritos con otros alfabetos aparte del ya conocido romano, añadiendo su traducción para que todos podamos entender su contenido. Como ejemplo, incluimos la imagen de una bella muestra de alfabeto árabe.

In our small blog we are specially concerned about languages, their transmission and the cultural aspects they feed on. That is why we would be grateful if you could send us pictures or written commentaries with other alphabets apart from the well-known Roman alphabet, including their translation for everybody to be able to understand them. In our example we add the image of a beautiful sample of Arabian alphabet.
